Independent Contractor Work for Process Servers and Legal Support Professionals

Independent contractor work, assignment by assignment. Not employment.

Apply to Work With Us

Tell us where you work, what you do and which licenses or registrations you hold.

Submitting this form does not create an offer, an employment relationship or any commitment to send you work.

Served 123 LLC handles matters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico through independent professionals who work locally. If you already do this work and document it properly, we would like to hear from you.

What This Is

Contractor work, not a job
Independent contractor work, engaged assignment by assignment. Not employment and not a salaried role.
You choose what you accept
Decline anything that does not fit your schedule or your area.
No guaranteed volume
Work follows client demand in your area, and it changes month to month.
Your own credentials
You carry your own license, registration, bond or insurance wherever your state or county requires them.

How It Goes

  1. Apply through the form on this page.
  2. We review your coverage area, services and credentials against what clients ask for near you.
  3. Approved contractors go on our roster for their area and services.
  4. Work in your area is offered as it comes in. You accept what suits you, at a fee agreed first.

Work We Offer

Each service below is one of our client services, carried out by someone local. If your specialty is not listed here, say so in the form.

Service of process
Personal, substitute, corporate and posted service, and the affidavit that records it. You will need licensing or registration where your state or county requires it, and a working knowledge of local service rules.
Subpoena domestication and court filing
Counter filings, foreign subpoena domestication and court submissions where the clerk wants a person at the window. You will need to know your county’s filing office, what it accepts and how it takes payment.
Mobile notary
Signings at homes, offices, hospitals and care facilities. You will need a current commission in your state, your journal and your seal.
Document and records retrieval
Filings, exhibits and certified copies from the court or recorder that holds them. You will need to know which counter holds what, and what that clerk charges to certify a copy.
Passive observation
Watching a location and reporting what you saw, with times, in writing. You will need accurate notes and a clear sense of what local law allows.
Courier
Court runs and document transfers that arrive with a signature against them. You will need a reliable vehicle and current insurance.

Tell Us While It’s Happening

Most of our clients are attorneys with dates on a calendar. Bad news they hear today can still be acted on; the same news on Friday often cannot. This is the one part of the work we do not flex on.

Nobody is penalized for a matter that could not be served. Tell us early when it is not going to happen.

Every attempt, as it happens
Logged when you leave the door, not rebuilt from memory at the end of the week: the time, the address and what you observed.
Anything that changes the picture, right away
A wrong address, a subject who has moved, a clerk who refused the packet, a gate you cannot get past. Tell us from the field.
Reachable while a matter is live
If you accepted an assignment, we can reach you about it within the working day.
A non-service documented like a service
When service fails, the attempt record is the work product. It shows the diligence the client is paying for.

What We Look For

Documentation you would defend
Complete attempt records, accurate times and an affidavit that does not need amending.
Knowledge of your local rules
And the judgment to ask a question before an attempt when a matter needs one.
Honest reporting
A non-service documented properly is worth more to us than a service we cannot stand behind.
Credentials in good standing
The license, registration, bond or insurance your jurisdiction requires, kept current.

What You Get From Us

The fee agreed before you accept
You quote or accept the rate for each assignment before you take it on.
A complete file
The documents, the parties and the deadline for each assignment.
The right to say no
Declining an assignment costs you nothing.

Questions From Applicants

Is this employment?

No. This is independent contractor work, engaged assignment by assignment. You set your own hours, choose which assignments to accept, use your own equipment and vehicle, and remain free to work for anyone else. You are responsible for your own taxes and for any license, registration, bond or insurance your jurisdiction requires.

How much work will I get?

We cannot say, and volume is not promised. It follows client demand in your area and in the services you offer, and it changes from month to month. Being on our roster is not a guarantee of assignments.

How does pay work?

The fee for each assignment is agreed before you accept it.

Do I need a license?

Wherever your state or county requires it, yes, and it must be current and in good standing. Some states license or register process servers, some counties do so separately and some do neither. Notaries need a current commission. Tell us what you hold.

I only cover one county. Should I apply?

Yes. Depth in one county is useful, especially in rural areas. List exactly the counties you cover rather than rounding up.

I run an agency. Can we apply?

Yes. Use the same form and tell us the counties you cover and the services your team provides.

How do I apply?

Through the form on this page. It asks for your name, your email, the services you provide, and your rates and counties of coverage.

Served 123 LLC engages field professionals as independent contractors, not employees. Submitting an application does not create an offer, an employment relationship, a partnership or any obligation on either side to offer or accept work, and being added to the roster is not a guarantee of assignments. Contractors are responsible for their own licensing, registration, bonding and insurance where their jurisdiction requires it, and for their own taxes.
